Another hike to a small waterfall brings us these jungly photos. It really was like another world.
Now for our history lesson. We spent a whole day at Pearl Harbor. We all learned alot and enjoyed our visit. We started off with the famous Arizona Memorial. We rode the boat out to the memorial which stands over the sunken battleship. It really is quite moving.
We then toured the Bowfin. This is the US submarine responsible for sinking 55% of the Japanese fleet during WWII after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The 2 photos below are aboard the Bowfin. One on deck and one of the kids peeking through the hatch below.
This photo below is on deck of the USS Missouri, The Mighty MO. This was quite the experience. We got the guided tour and had an army retiree walk us around teaching us our history. He showed us all the cool things on the ship, including the engine room and the missile launching "stuff". This battleship fought in WWII, Korea and then was recommissioned for Desert Storm. Its claim to fame is when it sat in Tokyo Bay while all the world leaders came on board to sign the peace treaty for WWII. We heard all the great stories and looked at the actual documents of surrender. The kids were enthralled and listened to our guide. Seeing it firsthand and understanding it from there was better than reading it in a book during school.

Grandpa Lee would be so proud! I can just picture him popping his buttons.
I made a model of the USS Missouri when I was a kid. Would love to see it in real life.
I really like cool historical sites.
